About this place
One account of a lunch of fried rice and gyoza notes the balance of the ingredients, the restrained seasoning and the cooking. The fried rice, with char siu, narutomaki and green peas, was said to be delicately seasoned yet savoury, with a light, fluffy texture. The gyoza, filled with plenty of vegetables and wrapped in a thin, pleasantly chewy skin, also made an impression for its garlicky flavour and crisp, fragrant underside. It is a satisfying combination to consider when you want rice and dumplings in one meal.
Shimura also serves noodles, stir-fries and set meals. The mapo tofu and twice-cooked pork set meals come with rice, pickles, salad and a soup that changes daily. One diner found the mapo tofu mild and said it went well with rice; another added extra heat. Twice-cooked pork is available as either a set meal or an à la carte dish, so you can have it with rice at lunchtime or pair it with small plates and a drink in the evening. Drinks include beer, sake and lemon sour, and one account describes enjoying gyoza with drinks at lunchtime.
The restaurant, in Hamadayama 2-chome, offers dine-in service and accepts cash only. It is described as suitable for solo diners as well as groups, with set meals among the choices at both lunch and dinner.
